Book Review – Just my luck by Adele Parks

What an amazing book!! I absolutely loved this story! This is the first book I’ve read from Adele Parks and it is safe to say that I would not hesitate to pick up another one straight away! A brilliant story of lottery wins, deceit, greed, deception, abduction, infidelity and so much more!

It really makes you wonder if you won the lottery how you would handle the wealth.

Personally if I was in Lexi’s and married to Jake I would tear him a new one! All the way through this book he has anointed and enraged me!

The story is very well structured with different characters telling their own version of events in their own words!

I loved the twist right at the very end but I was also very disappointed to find the Lexi was not the person she was made out to be the whole way through.

Still loved it even if it didn’t end how I wanted it to!

Highly recommended!

five-stars

I definitely give this read a 5 star review!

I hope you’ve all had a great weekend and here’s wishing you a great week ahead.

Bathroom Update

During lockdown I’ve been reassessing the decor in my home and giving everything in sight a freshen up because while your stuck at home what else is there to do.

This week the on the agenda is the bathroom. Because it’s tiled from floor to ceiling there’s not a lot I can do with the walls without completely destroying the room so I figured I could change the blinds to give it a tweak.

At present we have a white roller blind with a suede flower pattern in black in there and I’ve never really liked it since I put it up but at the time it was better than what was there when we moved in.

Existing bathroom blind

As I’ve been looking to modernise the house bit by bit I find myself torn between two options, Venetian blonds with ribbon or day/night blinds.

New blind options

I love them both which is why I can’t decide so I’ve taken to Instagram polls to see what the masses think.

Hope your all staying safe! Have a great weekend!

Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella – Book Review

I have just finished reading Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella. It’s the story of a thirty something woman called Lottie who’s track record with love is less than impressive.

With every break up follows a bad decision and the latest is no different.

She meets Ben who in my opinion is a bit of a sleaze ball and is someone she had a holiday romance with years ago and in a whirl wind kind of situation they decide to get married but keep the sex for the honeymoon.

This leads to the whole book being about how much he wants it and how much she keeps telling him to wait and starts to become a big of a bore in my opinion.

In the end her ex tracks her down on her honeymoon accompanied by her meddling sister and Bens best friend / work colleague and all is right with the world again!

I would give this book

It’s a good read but not one I would pick up again in a hurry!

Up-cycled Coffee & Side Tables

Back last year I bought a new coffee table and because I’m a lover of all things rose gold of course it had to be that colour. I searched and searched for months for the right style coffee table, and although there were plenty on the market they all seemed to have a black glass top which looks amazing when it clean but by god it doesn’t half attract the dust even when it’s just been wiped!

I didn’t want to get rid of the tables because one was a gift and the other less than a year old but something had to give as I was losing the war against the dust and mixed in with dribble finger prints from my one year old they always looked dirty!

You can see the dust on them here and they had just been cleaned!

I decided that I would like to update these with a marble top and as real marble is so expensive we opted to go for the cheaper alternative and wrap the tops in a marble effect vinyl. It has taken months to find marble effect vinyl that was long enough to wrap the tops without a join but finally this weekend we found the perfect roll in our local B&Q store.

As it was a flat surface it was fairly easy to to do, It just took a few attempts to get all of the air bubbles out from under the vinyl but I am so pleased with the result.

By wrapping the tops of our tables it has lifted the room so much and they match our decor so much better now. I wish I had done this months ago. For the sake of £10 we have transformed the centre price of our living room at what I would consider to be a bargain!

Have any of you guys attempted to update your furniture with sticky back plastic / vinyl, if so I would love to see your projects.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Be who you are and say what you think.

Those who mind, don’t matter.

Those who matter don’t mind.

Never have I uttered a truer phrase. When that time comes that you think about changing yourself whether it be your ways, appearance, or trying to change the things you enjoy to please someone else for someone else, just remember, the people who truly know you will accept you for who you are no matter what.

November

autumn leaves

As we say good bye to October and put away the Halloween decorations for another year, it’s a time for an autumnal cleanse of the house before the Christmas madness sets in!

The leaves on the trees are turning from yellow to golden red and I for one am such a fan of this beautiful month.

I hope you all had an enjoyable Halloween.  We dressed our little girl up as a witch this year which was without doubt the cutest thing I have ever seen! but I am biased! She refused to keep the hat on for even one photograph but she still looked cute non the less.

This weekend is all about packing away the Halloween decorations. (I am not looking forward to this) there are way to many spiders webs in my house so I think I may be there a while with this chore.  Then I think its time for a mega clean.

On that note I will bid you a due and hope you all have a great weekend.

Your car – a mode of transport or your personal vent space?

I’ve noticed lately that my car seems to be my sanctuary! By this is mean that no matter what happens during the day that annoys, bothers and enrages me I seem to try and keep it all locked in (as much as I possibly can) until the next morning when I get into my car to travel the 30 miles to work and then it all comes out!

I sit in my car on my journey to work and talk (out loud like a nutter) myself through all of the shit that’s been bothering me. I get upset, sometimes I cry, I get angry, frustrated and annoyed by all the things that are happening in my life right now that I have no control over!

It’s like having a conversation with a therapist but I am answering myself. (Sounds crazy right?). I play out different conversations that have taken place and voice the response that I would have loved to come out with but didn’t for the sake of keeping the peace with that person and not causing them upset. I’m not sure if this is deceptive behaviour. Perhaps I should speak my mind and on rare occasions I do but it always ends in hurt feelings for the other person which is why I use my car method!

Does anyone else do this or is this weird behaviour on my end? I would really like to know your thoughts on this!

Book Review – My Sweet Revenge by Jane Fallon

My Sweet Revenge by Jane Fallon  is such an amazing story.  I was hooked from the word go!  As with a few of the books by Jane, the story is set around the world of television.  Paula is a house wife with a part time job in a local bakery.  Her husband, Robert, is one of the starts in a well known soap opera.  She loves her life and despite having put her career goals on the back burner since the arrival of their daughter so is more than happy with her life.  She has a lovely flat in a nice part of London, a loving husband who works hard for his family and a bright and beautiful teenage daughter.

Since the time that Paula and Robert first met in college she has let herself go a little bit and working in a bakery certainly didn’t help with that.  Despite this all seems well in their marriage and they are as happy as they ever have been.  That is until a suspicious text message from a younger, thinner, pretty female co-worker comes through on Roberts phone while it is not under his guard.  This immediately raises Paula’s suspicions that the may be more to their happy life than meets the eye.

She decides that she will not confront Robert with this new found knowledge and make sure that she has the facts before he is even aware than she knows anything.  She is a girl after my own heart.  Once its confirmed she puts a plan into motion to get back in shape, make more of an effort with her general appearance, show more interest in Robert in general and what he wants to do and win his heart back.

at this point you may be thinking what a fool. But, there is a dish of revenge set to cool in preparation to be served.

I love how Jane Fallon has structured this book.  The first half is entirely from Paula’s perspective.  Her thought, experiences and concerns.  Half way through (Part 2) we get to hear the same story but from the perspective of the Mistress which then alternates IMG_0838between what is happening on Paula’s end of this and then from the side of the Mistress.  I don’t name the Mistress in this review as I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone who has not yet read it.  I was so on the fence for most of it as to who Robert was having the affair with it was brilliant.  Because of this Is it, isn’t it back and forth I finished the whole book in about 3 days flat.  Well obviously I had to squeeze some work time into this too, but I pretty much didn’t put this book down.

for any one who likes the work by Lucy Diamond or Sophie Kinsella this is a must read.

I gave this book 5/5 on Goodreads

five-stars I hope that you enjoyed my review and welcome any feedback.

Book Review – The Secrets of Happiness by Lucy Diamond

The Secrets of Happiness is a petty apt name for this book.  Its based on the strained relationship between two step sisters Becca and Rachel.  Rachel’s father had passed away a few years back and this is when she decided to cut all ties with her step mother and sister. Rachel never really got on with either of them even while her father was alive.  She believed that they were imposing on her happy life with her father.  Her mother had passed away many years ago when Rachel was only a toddler but she nurses fond memories of her.

Newly single and unemployed, thanks to her jealous, possessive, violent ex-husband; Rachel is trying her hand at starting her own personal training business.  All is going well until she takes a trip to Manchester which lands her in the hospital with a broken jaw and some serious memory loss making it impossible for her to contact home.

Becca is called by Rachel’s eldest daughter and asked if she can go to their home to hold down the fort until they can find out where their mother is.  As the relationship between Becca and Rachel is not the best at this time Becca is reluctant but goes anyway.  Becca, being carefree and a bit of a tear away when she was younger is overwhelmed when given the responsibility of looking after 2 children and a teenager.

Once Rachel is finally home Becca is a dab hand at running the house hold. As much as Rachel doesn’t want her there she realises fast that her injuries make it difficult for her to carry out even the simplest of tasks and she reluctantly asks Becca to stay.

Becca is of a plump build, nothing like slim, in shape, health nut Rachel and find her self out of her comfort zone when she is asked to train Rachel’s new clients.  Despite the fact that Becca has absolutely no clue as to what she is doing she slowly find herself getting in shape and starting to enjoy the sessions she is doing for Rachel, even if some of them are not what Rachel has scheduled.

After a confrontation with her ex and with Becca to back her up, Rachel really sees that she has had the wrong impression of her step sister all this time.  Rachel then decides to help Becca, along with Becca’s unexpected love interest, get herself on her feet and go into business for herself.

The end of this book gave me a warm fussy feeling.  After all the animosity between the two sisters they finally develop the type of relationship that each of them has always wanted.

I gave this book 5/5 on Goodreads

five-stars This is a feel good story and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to work of Jane Fallon also.

I hope that you enjoyed my review and welcome any feedback.

New Pound Coin

So today is the day that many coin collectors have been waiting for.  It is the official release of the new 12 sided £1 coin.  Being an newbie coin collector I have certainly been looking forward to its release.  So much so that Dan booked us a tour of the Royal Mint so that we could mint our own new coins before its release date.

The tour of the mint was such an amazing experience.  You get to have a front row seat of themaster_royal_mint_black_logo_royal_purple_rgb coins being made on the factory floor, you learn about what it takes to make a coin from the materials down to what each machine does to the metals to make it into the finished product, and finally you get to see all the old coins that they have there; some of which are dating back to the 16th century.  For any one who lives in the area I would highly recommend this as a trip for people of all ages.

Since the announcement of the new 12 sided £1’s release date there has been one hell of a st-2016-royal-arms-c2a31-bu-coin-both-sides1scramble for collectors to own all of the old round pounds which was aptly named The Great One Pound Coin Race.  There was one pound coin however, that you would not be able to find in your change and that was ‘The Last Round Pound’.  This coin is a collectable item which can only be purchased from the Mint its self.  I am so pleased to say that I am the proud owner of one of these coins.  They are beautifully designed with all of the mythical creatures from the four countries that make Britain great!

Have any of my lovely followers been on any cool day trips recently? If so I would love to hear about them!
